Tanzania Flag

Green symbolizes Tanzania's natural vegetation and farmland, black represents the Swahili people, blue stands for the Indian Ocean and inland waters, and the narrow yellow fimbriations highlight the country’s mineral wealth.([turn0search0], [turn0search5])

Following the 1964 union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, Tanzania’s flag combined Tanganyika’s green-black design with Zanzibar’s blue, separated by yellow stripes for distinctiveness; it was officially adopted on 30 June 1964.([turn0search0], [turn0search10])

A diagonally divided flag (1:2 ratio) featuring a black band edged in gold, separating a green triangle (top-hoist) and blue triangle (bottom-fly). The diagonal runs from lower-hoist to upper-fly. Colour shades are defined in national standards.([turn0search0], [turn0search15])

The flag is flown on government buildings, at national ceremonies and schools; it should be raised at sunrise, lowered at sunset, flown half-mast during mourning, and maintained in good condition; misuse is socially discouraged.([turn0search0])
